AASSATA to continue its pen down strike
ITANAGAR, Jan, 12: Claiming that there was no response from the state government to their ongoing pen down agitation, All Arunachal Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers Association (AASSATA) today stated that it would continue its agitation till the demands are met.
The Association said that it would renew its agitation until the written assurance given by the state government. Association also appealed to organizations and civil society and parents to extend their support for their cause.

PAYWA demands for infrastructure development
ITANAGAR, Jan, 12: In a representation submitted to local MLA, Palin Area Youth Welfare Association (PAYWA) today demanded for shifting of ADC post at Pania Camp which it said temporarily based at Palin.
While claiming that rampant corruption has engulfed the area in every sphere, PAYWA expressed its resentment for poor development. Association also demanded the local representative to shift the 50 bedded hospitals at Jorung Village claiming that building is lying useless. It added that all basic facilities like water supply, electricity and staff requirement and patient bed should also be provided to the hospital.
Association also demanded for introduction of APST luggage bus service from Itanagar to Palin. It also questioned on status of the chief minister announcement for major development projects to the area which he made publicly during his visit. It said that no single development project is being undertaken so far. It also expressed displeasure over the poor supply of PDS items to area and also complained about the irregular teachers in its area.

Addressing the huge gathering on the occasion at I G Park here today Chief Minister Nabam Tuki while acknowledging the selfless services rendered by Vivekananda Kendras (VKVs) to the people of Arunachal Pradesh along with rest of the country, exhorted the youths of the state to follow the teachings of Swami Vivekananda for better tomorrow.
The imprint of educational revolution they (VKVs) brought in Arunachal Pradesh at the stage when it was in dire need of quality education is sure a landmark in the history of the state, Tuki said.
“The alumni of this prestigious institution have succeeded in carving a niche in the state as well as in national arena. I would like to place on record that the youth oriented programmes launched by the Vivekananda Kendra in my state have been very successful. Massive participation of our youths is testimony to the constructive programmes the Kendra has been initiating in regular intervals. Such programmes are sure to boost the morale and confidence of our energetic youths and help them in building a strong and vibrant nation as dreamt by the great saint,” Tuki said.
Recalling Swamiji’s famous speech in the World Congress of Religions on September 11, 1893 on the occasion of his 150th birthday celebration here today, Tuki said “it reminds me of the great wandering monk who made the world realize about the all encompassing, compassionate and secular people of our great India.”
In his famous speech to the World Congress of Religions, Swamiji spoke of his vision for an end to violence and fanaticism. His message of the 18th Century is as timely and fitting in the 20th Century, as it was then, about 119 years ago, Tuki said.
Quoting Swamiji Tuki said: “My faith is in the younger generation, the modern generation out of whom will come my workers. They will work out the whole problem, like lions. I have formulated the idea and have given my life to it.”

Highlighting the motto of the year-

Other highlights of the celebration were colourful cultural programme presented by the students of Itanagar VKV and Nrityangan Dance and Music Academy. Among others, principal secretary to CM, T Norbu Thongdok, Horticulture Parliamentary Secretary Honchun Ngandam, RKM secretary Swami Viswatmananda, VK’s state joint general secretary Radha didi, senior officers and members of the civil society were present on the occasion.
At Roing, the celebration began with ‘Prabhat phery’ by the students and teachers of various schools in and around the Roing township. Colourful cultural programmes and science exhibition were presented in the General Playground to mark the occasion. The programme was organized by the VKV School, Roing and actively participated by all the govt. and private schools.
Addressing a large gathering on the occasion, local MLA Laeta Umbrey said that the youth force has a major contribution to the growth of the nation. He exhorted the youth to create a congenial atmosphere for carrying out developmental activities by ensuring peace and tranquility in the state.
Quoting Swamiji’s sayings, he further said that Swamiji’s ideals had a great influence on Indian youth. Even great freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, Vallabh Bhai Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru and many others were inspired by the works and wisdom of Swamiji.
Saying that Swamiji’s ideals and teachings are very much relevant to present scenario of our state, he further calls for imparting Swamiji’s teachings to the youths and adopt corrective measures to channelize youth force and also involve them in developmental activities for more contribution towards nation building.
Deputy Commissioner Shiv Kumar exhorted the youths to respect and follow values of Swamiji’s teachings. Swamiji was a man of principle, a great philosopher and a supporter of education on humanity, technical and vocational. His teachings were unique and relevant based on self realization, he added.

Grenade & ‘extortion’ note recovered in Capital

ITANAGAR, Jan 12: In a shocking incident a live Chinese grenade along with extortion note was found in the residence of an executive engineer at Gandhi Market area, Itanagar. According to the source, wife of engineer who was alone at home found the grenade packed in an envelope around 12.30 PM in the afternoon and immediately informed police. The note allegedly demanded Rs 5 lacs as an urgent extortion money and threatened of dire consequence if the engineer failed to pay the ransom.
When contacted Superintendent of police capital complex Surender Kumar informed that police has seized the grenade and investigation has been launched. On being asked about the identity of group or individual who issued extortion notice, he refused to divulge any detail. “ At this movement we can’t comment anything as investigation is going on and if there is any new development it will be shared,” stated SP Capital.
The incident is first of its kind to be reported in Arunachal and it has sent shockwave among citizens of capital.
This comes after attempt to murder on associate editor of this daily Tongam Rina on July 15, 2012. Though Rina survived miraculously, capital police have failed to make any arrest in this regard till date.
In the last few years crime rate has shot up across the state in general and capital complex in particularly. Some of the reasons attributed for this rise are the patronage of criminals by people at power and ineffectiveness of police to strongly deal with them.
Recently former home minister of state L.Wanglat through a representation addressed to the Commissioner (Home), Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh had charged some sitting ministers and MLAs of misusing PSOs to transport weapons of the ultras from neighbouring state of Nagaland in to Arunachal by using official government vehicles. It is also believed that various underground groups of Nagaland and Assam are very active in Arunachal and has recruited local youths to spread their influence.

ITANAGAR, Jan 12: The public leaders, senior citizens of Aalo and other parts of the Galo inhabited areas of West Siang district and senior Galo officers in a meeting held under the chairmanship of GWS president Jarjum Ete at the Conference Hall of DC office on Jan 11 condemned in strongest term the untoward incident leading to the death of a delegate from Dumporijo. The meeting was also attended by Parliamentary Secretary Home, West Siang Deputy Commissioner. The members present in the meeting observed one minute silence for peace of the departed soul.
The Galo Bane Keba also condemned the incident in general and conveyed deep sense of condolence to the bereaved family.
In the meeting, a Peace Committee headed by Tabin Karlo as Chairman, Yomkar Riba as Member Secretary, Meddak Lona as Coordinator and Kenyum Dabi, Tai Tassar, Gojum Basar, Domin Karbak, Tugo Gangkak, Toi Romin, Sengo Taipodia as members has been constituted to act immediately to defuse the prevailing tense situation. While condemning the barbaric attack on Yudik leading to his death, the Topo Welfare Society (TWS) observed two minutes silence for eternal peace of departed soul and conveyed deep sense of condolence to the bereaved family.
During its condolence meeting the Society also passed resolutions demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in brutal murder and to award them exemplary punishment. The Society further decided not to allow celebration of ensuing Mopin festival at Dumporijo as a mark of condemnation of barbaric murder. The TWS further demanded that the Galo Welfare Society should not allow use of Aalo general ground (where the incident took place) at least for one year to show solidarity with the bereaved family.
While condemning the crime committed by an individual, the All Ato Paktu Ao Welfare Society, Aalo, appealed all the Galo brothers and sisters of the state to maintain peace and tranquility during this critical period.
While demanding fair investigation by CBI or SIT into the incident, the Society said that if anybody bound involved in the incident should be punished as per law.
Meanwhile, the AAPAWS clarified that it has nothing to do with unfortunate incident happened due to infighthing between two groups. “There should not be any wrong notion on this issue and remours has been spread just to malign the AAPAWS and PAYWA who always stand for good cause of the society,” the AAPAWS said. It further said that the Paktu foundation stone was damaged during the incidence due to wrong impression which is condemnable.

ITANAGAR, Jan 12: The two days Sunrise children’s festival organized by department of tourism begins today at energy park, Itanagar. More than 150 children and their parents are participating in the event. The festive venue Energy Park situated adjacent to famous Indira Gandhi Park looked in festive mood with children in colourful dresses teeming up in large number and music blaring loudly.
The children were joined by enthusiastic tourism department team members lead by parliamentary secretary for tourism PD Sona, Secretary Tourism Sonam Chombay, Director Tourism AK Singh, other officials and tour operators.

ITANAGAR, Jan 12: Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society in association with NSS Cell, NERIST observed the National Youth Day today at NERIST Conference Hall with the theme “Do Something amazing today; Save a life; Give Blood”.
Attending the programme, Director of NERIST Prof. D. Pal, asked the young citizen of the country to follow the principle of Swami Vivekananda, who dedicate his entire life for the upliftment of the people of this nation.
While expressing his concern on the issue of HIV which has no definite cure and no vaccine even after 34 years of its detection, he stressed on the role of youth in the prevention of HIV.

Free coaching camp on Mathematics and Science
ITANAGAR, Jan 12: With the objective to develop mathematical skills and build scientific temperament among students, a free coaching camp on Mathematics and Science was jointly organized by Seva Bharati Arunachal and Amik Matai Society with the support of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA), Anjaw for the students of Class X, XI and XII at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Hayuliang from December 17.
Nearly 56 students have benefitted from the free coaching camp program.
An IIT – Bombay alumni Sneha Bhansali from Jnana Probodhini, Pune conducted the entire coaching in Mathematics and Science for the students of Anjaw from JNV Hawai, Govt. HSS, Hayuliang and few students from JNV, Mahadevpur and VKV, Amliang through simple Mathematical techniques which was widely appreciated by the students and the teachers respectively.
The concluding function was attended Sotailum Bellai, Circle Officer of Hayuliang and Principal of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Hayuliang along with the teaching fraternity.
Both the CO and the Principal requested the participating NGOs to carry out more such free coaching camps for the students of remote Anjaw in the coming days.
Representative of Amik Matai Society informed that the NGO will carry out such activities with the support of Seva Bharati Arunachal and SSA, Anjaw in the coming years too.
