Arunachal celebrates 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivakananda

Emulate the ideals of Swamiji for better tomorrow : CM

ITANAGAR, Jan 12: Arunachal Pradesh today joined the rest of country and world in year-long  celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda with various colourful programmes.

Finance Minister Chowna Mein flagged off Shoba yatra at Nyokum Lapang to mark the beginning of the  celebration of  Swamiji’s birth anniversary which later culminated at the I G Park. Sobha yatras were also taken out from R K Mission Hospital and Mowb –II.  Thousand of students from various schools of the Capital complex and representatives of various organizations including Brahmakumaris Rajyoga Centre, Itanagar, students from Nrityangan Dance and Music Academy, Itanagar, Art of Living Centre, Itanagar took part in the Shoba yatras and the celebrations.

Addressing the huge gathering on the occasion at I G Park  here today Chief Minister Nabam Tuki  while acknowledging the selfless services rendered by Vivekananda Kendras (VKVs) to the people of Arunachal Pradesh along with rest of the country, exhorted the youths of the state to follow the teachings of Swami Vivekananda for better tomorrow.

The imprint of educational revolution they (VKVs) brought in Arunachal Pradesh at the stage when it was in dire need of quality education is sure a landmark in the history of the state, Tuki said.

“The alumni of this prestigious institution have succeeded in carving a niche in the state as well as in national arena. I would like to place on record that the youth oriented programmes launched by the Vivekananda Kendra in my state have been very successful. Massive participation of our youths is testimony to the constructive programmes the Kendra has been initiating in regular intervals. Such programmes are sure to boost the morale and confidence of our energetic youths and help them in building a strong and vibrant nation as dreamt by the great saint,” Tuki said.

Recalling Swamiji’s famous speech in the World Congress of Religions on September 11, 1893 on the occasion of his 150th birthday celebration here today, Tuki said “it reminds me of the great wandering monk who made the world realize about the all encompassing, compassionate and secular people of our great India.”

In his famous speech to the World Congress of Religions, Swamiji spoke of his vision for an end to violence and fanaticism. His message of the 18th Century is as timely and fitting in the 20th Century, as it was then, about 119 years ago, Tuki said.

Quoting Swamiji Tuki said: “My faith is in the younger generation, the modern generation out of whom will come my workers. They will work out the whole problem, like lions. I have formulated the idea and have given my life to it.”

“I have the same conviction as that of Swamiji as India is the only country with 55 per cent of its population in their prime youth. As age-old India is ever young, Arunachal Pradesh is no exception either. The young Arunachalees have carved a niche for themselves as well as the country in global arena in many fields, particularly games and sports. They are making a visible impact which ever field they enter. This foot is without infrastructures, guidance and training. But if proper training and guidance are given, they would do wonders, Tuki said.

“You will be nearer to heaven playing football than studying the Bhagavad-Gita,” Swamiji once said.

“That is why I not only play soccer myself, but have made an avowed policy to attach top priority to games and sports to channelize the youth power towards nation building,” the CM said.

“My government’s decision to form State Skill Development Council and State Employment Generation Council under State Skill Development Mission to generate 100000 employment in next five years (2012-2017) by providing employment to each family and ultimately end unemployment problem in the state are steps in that direction,” Tuki said.

Moreover, he said, the state Cabinet has approved establishment of CM’s Livelihood Mission School, one in each 60 assembly constituency, to train the school drop outs and make them employed. These innovative policies are going to make a vast difference within a short span of time, Tuki believed.

The pace of development has been speeded up in Arunachal Pradesh and the benefits will be reaped by all sections of the society in the days to come, he said adding that his vision was to provide food security, proper education and proper health care system for people coupled up with respectable employment avenues.

Tuki hoped Swami Vivekananda’s dream would be fulfilled by our energetic and patriotic youth who through their selfless contributions would make a difference in making India, Arunachal Pradesh in particular, a better place for others to envy and emulate.

The CM also announced a grant of Rs 50 lakh from GoAP to the Swami Vivekananda Sardha Shati Samaroh (SVSSS) celebration committee for making the event a grand success.

Grenade & ‘extortion’ note recovered in Capital

Staff Reporter

ITANAGAR, Jan 12: In a shocking incident a live Chinese grenade along with extortion note was found in the residence of an executive engineer at Gandhi Market area, Itanagar. According to the source, wife of engineer who was alone at home found the grenade packed in an envelope around 12.30 PM in the afternoon and immediately informed police. The note allegedly demanded Rs 5 lacs as an urgent extortion money and threatened of dire consequence if the engineer failed to pay the ransom.

When contacted Superintendent of police capital complex Surender Kumar informed that police has seized the grenade and investigation has been launched. On being asked about the identity of group or individual who issued extortion notice, he refused to divulge any detail. “ At this movement we can’t comment anything as investigation is going on and if there is any new development it will be shared,” stated SP Capital.

The incident is first of its kind to be reported in Arunachal and it has sent shockwave among citizens of capital.

This comes after attempt to murder on associate editor of this daily Tongam Rina on July 15, 2012. Though Rina survived miraculously, capital police have failed to make any arrest in this regard till date.

In the last few years crime rate has shot up across the state in general and capital complex in particularly. Some of the reasons attributed for this rise are the patronage of criminals by people at power and ineffectiveness of police to strongly deal with them.

Recently former home minister of state L.Wanglat through a representation addressed to the Commissioner (Home), Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh had charged some sitting ministers and MLAs of misusing PSOs to transport weapons of the ultras from neighbouring state of Nagaland in to Arunachal by using official government vehicles. It is also believed that various underground groups of Nagaland and Assam are very active in Arunachal and has recruited local youths to spread their influence.

The latest incident is a second wake-up call to the state government to wake them up from deep slumber. They should accept the fact that state is facing serious law and order problem and try to address the issue genuinely. State Govt failed to wake up when Tongam Rina was shot at and if they again ignore the gravity of latest incident, then they are inviting bigger trouble in coming days.
